My Country, My Country showing at Indie Coffee and Books

  • 5 pm: Come celebrate Indian culture and join the Agnes Scott community for a "Night Under the Stars!" This year's event will include Indian cuisine (vegetarian and non-vegetarian), mehndi artists, sand mandala making, performing from various Indian dance troups, kite-flying, a live DJ, a Bollywood film and more!   • 6:30 pm: Elizabeth Dewberry and Jim Grimsley take part in a reading at Emory's Robert W. Woodruff Library. Dewberry is a nationally known novelist and playwright who is also an alumna of the Emory Department of English, 404.727.6861
  • 7 pm: Nicole Chillemi performs at Jazz Nights at Scottish Rite in Oakhurst.
  • 7:30 pm: Watch My Country, My Country at Indie Coffee and Books' monthly Indie Movie Night. Filmmaker Laura Poitras' fascinating Oscar-nominated documentary provides an inside look at war-torn Iraq from the perspective of a Baghdad citizen. The film follows Dr. Riyadh, a physician who serves the people in his community both as a health care provider and as an advocate in numerous areas of their lives. A critic of the U.S. occupations, Riyadh nonetheless supports democracy in iraq and decided to run as a candidate in the tumultuous 2005 elections, 404.378.7710
